Catholic Soccer Camps at Franciscan

One of the first Catholic-oriented soccer camps of its kind. It is operated in a collaborative arrangement by the Franciscan University of Steubenville (Steubenville, Ohio), the World Youth Soccer Academy (formerly at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida) and The Soccer Academy© Television Show.

Head Coach – Antonio Soave

Antonio Soave was a high school All-American who earned an NCAA Division I soccer scholarship and later went on to train in Italy with Lazio in the Serie A. He played and coached in the United States Interregional Soccer League (USISL) with the Detroit Wheels from 1993 to 1996. He was the Head Coach of the World Youth Soccer Academy (WYSA) at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex® in Florida from 1999 to 2003, and he later served as a consultant to the AC Milan Junior Camps in Vittorio Veneto, Italy. He is currently the host of a nationally televised soccer adventure and instructional show, “The Soccer Academy.”

Special Guest Coach: Luigi (Gino) Maldera

The eldest of the two Maldera brothers (along with his brother Aldo, both ex-Milan superstar players), Gino grew up with the AC Milan youth organization until graduating to the level of the “Primavera” team (Under 19) in his late teens. He then spent two years in the professional Serie B wearing the Monza and Verona jerseys. During the 1968/69 season he played in the Italian Serie A upon his return to AC Milan. Wearing the red and black jersey of Milan he played for 5 seasons at Milan and where he won the coveted Champions Cup in 1969 and the Intercontinental Cup. From Milan he went to Catanzaro, during the Serie A’s famous “glory years.”

The Soccer Academy Television Show is a travel and adventure show designed for youth soccer enthusiasts. It is truly unique because it helps promote global peace through greater cultural understanding, and it uses youth and pro soccer as a wonderful backdrop and tool. It is also an energetic, upbeat half-hour format with soccer tips, trivia, pro soccer clips and a kid’s corner. It is artistically directed is enveloped in music – the latest and coolest among teenagers. It airs every Saturday and Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. on the second digital cable channel on a variety of ABC, NBC and CBS channels across the country in major cities such as Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson, Miami, Las Vegas, Houston, Reno and San Juan (Puerto Rico).
